We had our first Home Study "Meeting" this Tuesday 1/29/13! We were so excited we could hardly wait. It went really well. Yes, she did asked many questions, but it made us all feel at ease as we know we are in the right hands. She is so kind! I absolutely Love Amy! She is a doll, as my mom would put it.
We went over our expectations of being parents, and what we had been led by the Lord to write in our Auto Bios!
We met at 9:00-1:20 ish, and yes we talked ALMOST The entire time. At first, we all discussed the information we placed on our paper work and then one at a time. I asked Derek to go first. Since I talk way too much, he should go so we would have time. It went FAST! We met at The Hills Church in North Richland Hills Area. It has the best coffee shop and book store! So while I waited on Derek, I could finish my Bible study and shop.
Example of questions she asked: What does it mean to be a mother? Can you explain the experiences in your Auto Bio? How do you feel about this or that?
For those of you thinking it is a horrible experience, IT IS NOT!
I wish all married adults would do this, it makes you think if you are ready to be a PARENT, not just a friend!
So what's next???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
ANOTHER HOME STUDY AT OUR HOUSE!!!!!! Yea!!!!!!!!!! Next Wednesday! We were shocked!
I have to tell you, we did come home and do some Spring Cleaning, and I still have more to do, but if you know us, you know I'm NOT ORGANIZED/Derek is! So this has put me in CLEANING MODE!
THEN WHAT?
We wait for approval, after I write the Birth Letter to the perspective mother, and our family book. If you are family/friends you are probably in it and THEN WAIT!!!
"The Waiting Game,"" as stated by Dr Seuss....OH, THE PLACES YOU'LL GO.
We have to remember IN GOD's TIME! It is hard, because you just want to go out and get everything ready for adorable bundle of joy...then you think, I shouldn't count the chicken before the egg hatches. Wait and pray for the Mother and Father that are making this decision out of love. Until next Blog, please pray for the women and men and their families making a most difficult decision ever. No matter where, what situation, Pray for them to have peace and love and know that they are wrapped in the loving arms of the Lord.
If you know someone wanting to Adopt or know anyone in a situation waiting a loving place to turn with child, Abilene Christian Home may be their answer.

TODAY's Nesting Syndrome has Kicked into high gear!
AS OF TODAY! 1-20-2012
Here is where we stand in the process...
ALL PAPER WORK COMPLETE FOR HOME STUDY TO BEGIN!
PRAISE THE LORD!!!
Made our new email only for Birth parents!!! YIPPY!
First meeting tentative for Jan 29, 2013
Nine days away. I'm so excited.
The agency has everything they need for us to begin the homestudy...Now I panic, it is REAL..... Very REAL!!!!! We are doing this with the blessing of the Lord, I know. But I'm starting to get that NESTING thing going...I didn't think I would get it, but things are flying through my mind. What do we need to do before we become parents?(Date nights?) I know everything is never perfect! But I feel like I'm forgetting to do something important..... What could it be?
Today, I began working on my teaching certification. It's not due until. Aug 2015, but I want to be a head! I'm thinking of subbing, if I can find somewhere to sub (short- term). I don't want to forget how to teach. I'm really starting to worry, as you can see. My writing skills are lacking! Yikes. So I signed up for several classes today. It kind of made me miss the classroom, but I know a baby will be here in a few years and will require lots of my time. So for now, time to get this nest clean and ready. I'm thinking it will be here in 1-2 years. I feel that we are ready, but I know PATIENCE IS the KEY TO ADOPTION!!! And boy do I need to clean a room for our bundle! or Bundles..Wouldn't that be a Ton of JOY!!! We would love that!!! One, wonderful, Two Double the Blessing, Three,,,,,Triple the Fun.. and Four....Oh My,,,I'll need to hit the floor!
Derek and I know that God will bless us with as many as he thinks we can handle! We are so blessed! If you have any special things you wish you would have done more before becoming parents, please share!! We would love to know and anything you think we should read, please post!! Or email us!

Blessings Beyond a Birthday
The day was August 9, 2012. I was headed to meet my lovely niece, "LB" in Abilene. You see it's our families half way point to Lubbock. I know not exactly half way, but pretty close! And I had asked about Christian Homes on our WONDERFUL COMMUNICATION Board, FBOOK! And what would you know. Several dear friends replied back as soon as possible! I was amazed. Once again, the Lord was whispering louder than ever before.
I had already ran into two woman whom had adopted and they had told me not to wait any longer. The process is long and can take a while. So When I went to Abilene on that hot summer day I felt like I wasn't just going for a ride with mom to pick up Lisa Beth.
After having an eventful lunch and watching a man throw his coke on his lady friend. Which I was so sad, but she ran out as fast that I couldn't even try to catch her. We went to the Abilene Christian Homes office. I just wanted to pick up a packet or see if they could give me any information. To my surprise, the Lord again, made every thing happen. The woman at the front desk, who was a delight asked if I had time to speak to a case worker. Of course I did! I went out got mom and LB and told them I had to meet with someone.
I met with the most terrific intake social worker, Angie. We spoke and she answered all my questions and told me about the upcoming orientation. I couldn't believe it! She was talking to me, instead of saying all of our forms are online. As many agencies do now days! Well they do have on line forms, but the personal help and support was more than I ever expected.
All I could think is the scripture Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
It was TRULY the BEST BIRTHDAY GIFT EVER and continues to keep giving!!

Welcome to our journey
Jan 15, 2013
Hello,
We are Derek and Mindy!
We have started the Adoption Process and wanted to create this blog to follow our journey for our family, friends, and others that may be traveling down the same road. We hope you enjoy hearing about our joyous times and well as (we hope few), sad times. Knowing the Adoption process can be trying at times, our plan is to help keep you in touch with our process. So here is a little bit about our life! Note this is my first time to Blog, so I'm learning as I go!
I am Mindy, "a retired", new to the stay at home wife, I was a Special Education teacher of 9 years! Yes, I caps because I loved my position in teaching. After a trying time at trying to conceive through IVF, I lost at 8 weeks then 2 months later had a Blood Clot behind my knee. (They think no relation, I don't want to scare anyone doing IVF) Not a great APRIL FOOLS JOKE! Many people would have gone back to work after a few rounds of blood thinners, but a year before I was ill with off blood clotting disorder. So the best Dr, in the world, strongly suggested that I take some time off and take care of myself. Well I have done it, and been GREAT!
My "Prince Charming," Derek is going to make the Best Daddy in the WORLD! He is an electrical engineer. I call him my computer nerd! I was so blessed to find him after dating lots of FROGS! He loves kids, and after putting up with my past illnesses and going through the IVF stuff, he is ready and most excited to adopt. We met Dec 7, 2007..and well I won't bore you with our love romance, we did meet on Match.com. Don't knock those websites! We got married on Jan. 17, 2009. So here we are, fast forward almost 4 years in 2 days!
After the heart ache of losing our child, we decided not to venture another round of IVF, do to the cost and the thought of doing all the medicines and paying an extremely high price for no 100% guarantee. Everywhere I turned people had another story of a successful adoption journey. It was like the Lord was screaming at us to adopt. Praying and more praying, led us to what seemed it should have been our first decision! ADOPTION...After calling every agency local and internet based and meeting with wonderful and generous friends that had adopted we found the agency that seemed to be made for us.
I will tell you about that story later..... The Best 36th Birthday Trip!
We have finally picked our adoption agency, Abilene Christian Homes. We now hope and pray they approve us. But here is where we are...In case, you are wondering....
We attended our Orientation Meeting Oct. 2012 Weekend full of grasping the love of others, meeting couples like us, and hearing the families tell their stories was amazing and enlightening
Oct-Today: Filling out paper work, attending Dr.s appointments, Baby CPR/First Aid Class, 2 Baby Classes on Safety and more paper work! and first payment sent
Today: I had two more paragraphs for our profile to write, after writing and rewriting,,,,finally finished with my mom. Thank goodness she was an English teacher and could help edit. Or I would have been stuck!
Also today: I spoke to our Case Worker...Amy! I hope she is ours!! And hopefully have booked our first Home study Meeting...
We are so blessed by our friends and families' support. We know this waiting will be difficult. We ask for your prayers as we make our story public.
Here is the website to Abilene Christian Homes, please keep them in your prayers and the Birth Mothers considering adoption for their child.
